The second round of the 2014 Formula Car Challenge was held at Thunderhill raceway April 26-27. Alex qualified on pole Saturday with a 1:39.9 – nearly 1.2 seconds faster than the second place driver. After spinning on the opening green flag lap, he fell to the back of the field – over 20 seconds behind the leaders. He worked his way through the eleven car field to finish second, just 1.2 seconds behind the first place car. He showed his ability to navigate through traffic quickly and cleanly and maintain focus under difficult circumstances. On Sunday, Alex took the pole position again (four poles out of four races for the season) and set down a 1:40.4 which was 1.3 seconds ahead of second place. With the green flag flying earlier than anticipated, another driver got the lead early. Alex made his move in about lap 5 in the fast turn one of Thunderhill after getting a good draft down the straight and he took off – finishing the race over 15 seconds ahead of second place. With three first place finishes and a second place finish, Alex is currently the Championship points leader.
The next race will be held at Thunderhill May 24th and 25th. Alex will run double duty at this race – running in both the Pro Formula Mazda and the first race in the 2014 Mazda Miata Teen Challenge.
